Run a fundraising event

Organise fundraising events big or small, such as a wine tasting, a trivia night, a movie night or a physical challenge. If you've never organised a fundraiser before, click on the links below to see the guidelines, templates and checklists that can help you with every step of the process. Even if you have organised events before, these resources are available if you need them - or if you just want to check how we do things at The Orangutan Project. 

What you get when you sign up to run an event

  1. Checklists and guidelines to help you plan and run your event 
  2. Your own crowdfunding page (if you need one)
  3. Support from our team (e.g. suppor with planning, marketing, volunteers to assist at your event)
  4. Support from the Volunteers Fundraising Manager (VFM) throughout the process

To use the resources below, click on the links. Download and save the Google Docs and Google Sheets to your computer and type into them as you normally would. For Google Forms, fill out the form and it will be automatically sent to the right people in our team.

Steps to running a fundraising event

  1. Identify your event idea, venue, date and time - book a meeting with the VFM if you're not sure how to start
  2. Draft an Event Management Plan and send it to the VFM 
  3. Draft an Event Budget and send it to the VFM 
  4. Organise a meeting with the VFM to discuss your idea, budget, venue, marketing etc
  5. If you need marketing support (i.e. ticket sales, Facebook promotions, etc.) contact your local VFM.
  6. Organise prizes for raffle, silent auction or other fundraising activities
  7. Seek support from friends, family, volunteers, work colleagues to sell tickets
  8. Promote the event via your social media, community, workplace, friends and family etc
  9. Order merchandise via the VFM (if required)
  10. Fill out a Risk Management Plan and send it to the VFM for feedback
  11. Bank funds at a Triodos Bank as per How to Bank Funds
  12. Complete an Event Report
