Welcome to the world, baby Lego!

We are happy to share the news from our friends at Orangutan Foundation about a gorgeous new arrival!

Welcome to the world, baby Lego!

In June, staff at Camp Rasak in the Lamandau Reserve woke to a lovely surprise. Labetty had come to camp in the early morning with a newborn baby boy! With the umbilical cord still attached, Labetty was quite hesitant to be approached, and headed back into the forest to rest.

She returned a few days later with baby Lego, and the team were able to make sure both baby and mum were doing well.

We’re pleased to report that the pair are very healthy and happy, and are often seen heading to camp together. Here they forage for food, play and rest during the day. Labetty is a caring and attentive mum and Lego is suckling well.

They’ve also paired up with mum and bub duo Amina and Albie, hanging out together at the feeding sites most days.

Baby Lego’s home at Camp Rasak provides a safe place for orangutans to live in their natural habitat, away from degraded forests and the threat of human-orangutan conflict.

We’re thrilled that both Labetty and Lego are doing well, and can’t wait to see how they grow together as a family! The Orangutan Project has supported orangutan conservation in the Lamdandau Reserve since 2008.
