We’re excited to introduce you to our APE Achiever of the Month—Jainul!
Jainul’s journey with us began on 24 April 2021 when our BORA team rescued him during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in East Kalimantan. Estimated to be just 1–2 years old at the time, Jainul had been kept by a local family for about a year. They mostly fed him rice and vegetables. He often cried in distress and was given bitter tea to soothe him—a heartbreaking start to life for a young orangutan.
At the time of his rescue, Jainul was unwell with a fever. Thankfully, he received the medical care he needed and, after completing his quarantine, quickly became a big fan of the baby playground!
Fast forward to 2025, and Jainul has made incredible progress in his rehabilitation. He’s thriving at Jungle School, where he eagerly climbs into the forest canopy to explore and forage. Being so young, he does get tired and sometimes comes to the ground to seek his babysitter’s attention—often in the cheekiest way, like biting their boots!
Jainul’s playful personality shines through when he wrestles with his orangutan friends, especially Aman. For young orangutans, play isn’t just fun—it’s essential for learning the skills they’ll need to survive in the wild, much like it is for human children. Don’t miss this adorable video of Jainul, Aman, and Bagus in action: Watch here!
From a difficult start in life to becoming a confident, curious, and cheeky young orangutan, Jainul’s progress is nothing short of inspiring. His journey toward forest freedom is only possible because of your support.
Thank you for being a part of Jainul’s story and for giving orangutans like him the chance to thrive and return to their rightful home in the wild. 💚
