This year, we mark a special milestone as Leif Cocks, Founder of The Orangutan Project, turns 60. For over 30 years, Leif has dedicated his life to protecting orangutans and their rainforest habitats. His efforts have raised global awareness and contributed to the survival of countless orangutans.
Leif's journey began at Perth Zoo in Australia, where he achieved a significant milestone with the release of Temara, the first zoo-born orangutan, back into the wild in 2006. In 1998, Leif founded The Orangutan Project with a vision of a world where orangutans live freely, safe from deforestation and poaching. Under his leadership, the organisation has protected over 2.7 million acres of rainforest in Borneo and Sumatra, rescued and rehabilitated hundreds of orangutans, and worked with local communities to restore vital habitats.
As Leif celebrates his 60th birthday, we invite you to make a special donation in his honour. Your support will help continue his mission and protect orangutans and their forests.
Donate Now to honour Leif's legacy and contribute to a brighter future for orangutans. Every dollar makes a difference.
